16oz pkg – split peas

2C – ham & ham bone

3 carrots

0.5C – onions

2 ribs celery

2 cloves garlic

1 bay leaf

parsley to taste

1T kosher salt (or a bit less)

0.5 t pepper

1.5 quarts chicken broth

• I like to cut veggies into larger pieces for a more textured soup. I do not dice.
• We use left over ham from our smoker. Extra flavor.
• C’s Mom said she uses kosher salt in most recipes. I like this idea. Think it gives more salt flavor.
• Original recipe calls for 1.5 quarts water. We prefer using broth.

Layer ingredients in crock pot in order listed. Do not stir.

Cover & cook on High for 4-5 hours, or until peas are soft.

Remove bay leaf & mash peas to thicken.
